I had the opportunity to be a guest on The GameTime Guru Podcast with Shane Larson to discuss the mental aspects of sports. Playing soccer growing up and eventually going on to D1 soccer in college, I learned early on that mental toughness was essential to be successful as an athlete. In this episode we discuss lessons from sports that you transfer outside the game to work and relationships.
As a coach and counselor to young athletes, one of my goals is to encourage a healthy framework around competition and winning in sports. It was an honor to appear on this podcast to discuss the mental aspects of sports.
You can listen to this episode on mental aspects of sports the following ways:
——
Derek sits in to talk with us today about the mental health side of sports. It’s a topic not a lot of people bring up. We’ll hear from the man himself who has years of experience not only as a player but as a coach and counselor, and see how much mental toughness plays a part in athletics.
He played soccer in college and now is a coach helping the youth. He gets to see the pressures that our young athletes go through and he’ll discuss with us a few different things we can be looking out for so we can help our youth as they battle with anxiety and pressure in sports.
How can we help as parents? As coaches? As teammates?
Listen in and find out! It’s an educated discussion you do NOT want to miss!!
